Oil Formation Lab
Materials:
Goal:
- Lettuce
- Measuring cup
- Plastic bags
- Refrigerator
- Markers
- Thermometer
Goal:
- Replicate some (but not all) aspects of oil and natural gas formation
Procedure:
1) Measure two cups of lightly crushed iceberg lettuce.
2) Place one cup of lettuce in a zip lock bag and label the bag "warm". Place the other cup of lettuce in a zip lock bag labeled "cold".
3)Distribute the lettuce along the bottom of each bag and roll the bags from the bottom to remove as much air is possible. Seal each bag.

Lab Questions:
1. What conditions required for oil or natural gas to form are begin reproduced in this lab?Which conditions are not?
The conditions that have been reproduced are no oxygen, photosynthetic material, time and heat. The one that did not reproduced is pressure.
2. What changes did you observe?
The changes that i noticed in the cold bag started to gain more centimeters in its circumference of the lettuce ,however the warm bag decreased in centimeters in its circumference.
3. What do you expect caused these changes?
I think its because the temperature.
4. Was there any difference between the "warm" and "cold" bag? How do you think this relates to oil and natural gas information?
Yes because if the temperatures were the same the results would be the same or similar.
